ENROLLMENT IS NOW CLOSED

April 30-May 2, Live Online Workshop!

There are many things that make us unique as human beings. Our fingerprints, our DNA and our histories are aspects of identity that show who we are. For an artist, our personal style is also on that list. How we see and interpret the world is reflected in our art, from the first time we pick up a paintbrush.

But maybe you're not seeing that right now. If you're struggling to identify exactly what your creative style is, if your lack of confidence is showing up in your paintings, or if you feel pigeonholed by your personal style after years of painting the same old stuff in the same old way, this workshop is meant for you!

What makes a great personal style?

About ten years ago I had a light bulb moment; after painting in watercolor for years, I was locked into a tight, detail-oriented, realistic style that prioritized outcome over self-expression. I was full of doubts about my artistic future and frustrated that I didn't seem to be able to make art that stood out. It took a mentor to show me what I needed to learn; that authentic creativity is built on trust, vulnerability and freedom. I needed to learn to trust my audience, that if I made the art that my heart craved, I could trust others to love and value it too.

Over the last year, I've not been able to teach in person workshops the way I would like, and I've missed being able to inspire other artists and mentor them to their own personal breakthroughs into that place of trust and authenticity. I'm excited to be able to offer this online workshop, happening live and online April 30, May 1 & 2.

What the workshop is about:

Over three days we will be using watercolor to explore the concept of personal style. What is it? How do we access it? How do we know if we are succeeding in this goal? What are some strategies we can use to invite freedom and authenticity into our work? Do you need to be a "loose painter" to develop an authentic personal style? How do we define commonly used terms like loose, intuitive, "trust the process" and find our place in that spectrum? How do we deal with imposter syndrome, rejection & criticism of our work, and tune out our harshest critic - ourselves?

We're going to discuss and seek answers for some of these difficult questions, while exploring how watercolor's fluid nature and unexpected "happy accidents" can lead to artistic breakthroughs that will build your confidence and love for this beautiful medium.

Who is this workshop for?

Intermediate and above watercolor skills.

This is not a beginner watercolor workshop. A working knowledge of techniques in watercolor is assumed and will help you focus on expression without having to also struggle to learn new techniques. This is not a "paint like Angela" workshop either - the goal here is to help you develop the confidence to let your own personal style emerge, regardless of your preferred subject, genre or even medium, for those multi-disciplined or mixed media artists, there is guidance here for you too!
